This is Lonnie Sewell with the Sewell Agency in Chillicothe with this week’s crop insurance update.
Let’s talk about planted corn that has flooded or washed out. If the ground won’t plant by June 5th you may qualify for a final claim. If you choose not to plant to another crop such as soybeans or Milo you should get 100% of your guaranteed indemnity for corn.
If you choose to plant another crop after June 5th your corn claim and premium will be reduced to 35% of your guarantee and the second crop will be insurable. But be careful this will affect your APH or average yield. It may not be worth the 35% payment to have a “0” in your yield history and be sure to work with the numbers before you plant a second crop. The 65% payment you lose might be more than the second crop will make. This is the Sewell Agency in Chillicothe phone 800-281-4020. Your connection to crop protection.
