Hi this is Lonnie Sewell of the Sewell Agency in Chillicothe with this weeks Crop insurance update. Well last week a lot of planting and replanting went on. Fortunately for many farmers most of the acres that looked like would be prevent plant just a week or two ago are getting planted. For those with buy-up crop insurance this raises your coverage protection from 60% of your guarantee to 100%. I know there are many areas that are still under water or have been damaged and will not be planted in 2007. But that is what you prevent plant coverage is for. This is a one year payment and you will be expected to have the fields ready to plant by 2008. The policy says the prevent plant loss damage has to occur after crop sales closing date of that year which is March 15th. It has rained for the past several days and certainly not what these newly planted crops need. If you have to replant be sure to contact your agent before starting. For those of you with revenue type coverage, corn replant payment is about $32, per acre and soybeans, about $24. If you have a topic you would like discussed send it to sewellagency@cmuonline.net or just call it in.
All of the topics discussed on this program are available online at blog4020.blogspot.com.
